Olive learns she has qualified for the \"Little Miss Sunshine\" beauty pageant, being held in Redondo Beach, California in two days. Richard, Sheryl, and Edwin want to support her, and Frank and Dwayne cannot be left alone, so the whole family goes. Because they have little money, they go on an 800-mile (1,300 km) road trip in their yellow Volkswagen van. Family tensions play out along the way, amidst the aging van's mechanical problems. When the van breaks down early on, the family learns that they must push the van until it is moving at about 20 mph (32 km/h) before it is put into gear, at which point they have to run up to the side door and jump in. Later on, the van's horn starts honking unceasingly by itself, which leads to the family being pulled over by a state trooper.
The film was pitched to several studios, and the only interested studio was Focus Features, who wanted to film it in Canada.[8] After the studio attempted to have the film be centered on the character Richard Hoover, and Arndt disagreed, he was fired and replaced by another writer.[5] The new writer added several scenes, including Richard's confrontation with the character who dismisses his motivational technique business.[17] A corporate change brought in a new studio head and Arndt was rehired when the new writer left after four weeks of rewriting the script.[18] After two years of pre-production, Focus Features dropped the film in August 2004. Marc Turtletaub paid $400,000 to Focus Features to buy back the rights to the film and for development costs.[8] He also paid for the $8 million budget, allowing Little Miss Sunshine to then be filmed.[19]
Michael Medved gave Little Miss Sunshine four out of four, saying that \"... this startling and irresistible dark comedy counts as one of the very best films of the year ...\" and that directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, the movie itself, and actors Alan Arkin, Abigail Breslin, and Steve Carell deserved Oscar nominations.[45] Joel Siegel issued an 'A' rating, saying that \"Orson Welles would have to come back to life for this not to make my year-end Top 10 list.\"[46] Stella Papamichael of BBC News called the film \"a winning blend of sophistication and silliness\".[47] USA Today's Claudia Puig commented on Breslin's depiction of Olive Hoover, \"If Olive had been played by any other little girl, she would not have affected us as mightily as it did.\"[48]
The first thing we see are the blue eyes of a little girl staring right at us so intently, it seems she could peer right into our souls. Only she's not looking at us. The reflection in her big plastic glasses reveals she's gazing at a beauty pageant on TV, at the moment the winner is being crowned. She's studying this moment, rehearsing it and rehearsing for it. Just a few seconds into \"Little Miss Sunshine\" we know it's a movie about dreams -- and illusions.

This is one of our favorite juices! It is perfectly balanced in flavor, loaded with vitamin C, contains shikimic acid that neutralizes spike proteins, helps calm an upset stomach, and tastes like liquid sunshine! This juice is also great for new mothers to help stimulate their milk production. Young folks love it too!
She admitted that's partially based on her physique (\"I'm really short\" at 5-foot-1, she said, \"and I look very little.\") However, it's also based on other people's assumptions about her age, thanks to a character she played in 2006.
Wow. That was... Due to technical difficulties, late deliveries, and some misfiled DVDs, this week's list is a little later than normal (but it's still Tuesday, so it's not technically late). It is also a lot larger than normal with a record number of Spotlight reviews (23 in all, or 30 if you count individual movies). There are also some very high quality releases including Zack and Miri Make a Porno on either DVD or Blu-ray. However, given the subject matter of that film, I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. The best release of the week is, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist on DVD or Blu-ray, but especially the Blu-ray, which is worth the upgrade. That film is the DVD Pick of the Week. With a record number of spotlight reviews, it goes without saying that the list had to be split up this week, with the second part found here, while the third part can be found here. (First time I had to separate the list into three parts.) More...Award Season - Next Day ReactionsFebruary 26th, 2007
\"Got mine in the mail the other day and plugged it in right away ... Just plain awesome, truly is a little box of sunshine! Thick, rich and swirly, not too bright or too dark ... just perfect. One knob is all I need, no apparent volume drop or boost. The description on the Skreddy website is dead-on. Don't feel like I would want anything more or less from the way it sounds right off the bat. It is SUPER QUIET ... ultra low noise floor for a phaser pedal. Lower noise then any other ones I have. My favorite phaser right now ... compared to the other ones I have or had: x1, x2 and x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9, x10 ... etc. (probably forgetting a few) (Ed: I've anonymized the product names. --Marc) Awesome lil' pedal!\" Andy \"Hi Marc, just wanted to let you know the Little Miss Sunshine sounds fantastic. Really a wonderful sounding phaser. Even better than I expected. Sounds SO much better than then the \" 45 \" and \"90 \" I own. The LMS sounds like the perfect melding of the two somehow with all the sonic improvements you've designed into this pedal. I'm sure it would be the phaser that wins over guitarists that say they don't like phasing ! Thanks again !\"
On July 26, 2006, a multigenerational crew of misfits piled into a yellow VW bus and made indie movie magic. To honor this Sundance classic, which won Oscars for Alan Arkin and screenwriter Michael Arndt, catch up with the cast of Little Miss Sunshine and see what they've been doing since pushing the little yellow bus.
Bryan Cranston played the vile Stan Grossman in Little Miss Sunshine, and was famous for his role as Hal on the sitcom Malcolm in the Middle. He guest-starred on several famous TV comedies including Seinfeld, American Dad, and How I Met Your Mother before joining a little show called Breaking Bad in 2008, which earned him four Primetime Emmys and capitulated his career to new heights.
This plant requires very little care. Prune in spring, only after the new growth has begun to appear. Cut back hard for best results; in Northern areas it may die completely to the ground. Tip die back is common after cold winters. The plant blooms on the current season's growth so will flower even if cut to the ground in spring. It does require well drained soil. Fertilize with a controlled release fertilizer in spring.
When Little Miss Sunshine premiered at Sundance, the film was an instant hit, receiving a standing ovation after its first screening. Suddenly all the distributors, most if not all of which had probably passed originally, wanted the movie. After an intense bidding war, Fox Searchlight nabbed the rights for an astonishing price tag of $10.5 million (plus 10% of the gross). The purchase price may have seemed like too much at the time, but it made a lot of sense in business terms. And not necessarily because Searchlight had the skills to turn a little dysfunctional family indie into a $100 million-grossing, multi-Oscar-nominated success.
Breslin plays Olive, daughter to Richard (Kinnear) and Sheryl (Collette), sister to Dwayne (Paul Dano). Richard is the gung-ho success guru whose nine-step self-actualization program, \"Refuse to Lose,\" has not yet actualized any success. Sheryl is the scattered and exhausted spouse, Dwayne the teenage son who rebels by refusing to talk; he's taken a vow of silence until he gains admission to the Air Force Academy. Rounding out this crew are Arkin as Richard's corrosive, drug-addicted father and Carell as Frank, Sheryl's brother, a gay Proust scholar who has just attempted suicide following a lovers' break-up.
But once the movie arrives in California, Michael Arndt's screenplay falls apart. The film becomes morally incoherent: It excoriates the little-miss pageant scene, with its dolled-up children in Tammy Faye makeup, and yet it trades in those selfsame objectifying stereotypes when Olive gets up and does a striptease to Superfreak. 59ce067264
